Coming from a historic, 100+ year old parcel of Pineau d'Aunis the name is translated to: "The Glass of the Poets" and poetry it truly is!
The color is enchanting, pale cherry red, shiny and translucent. The nose sings of red fruits: cherry, strawberry and pomegranate, the palate is dry and taut with a sweet wild strawberry character and a little chalky perfume. There is an appealing litheness to it, and a brilliant peppery finish that marks it as classic Pineau d’Aunis.
Maceration and proportions of whole-cluster or destemming vary each vintage depending on the sanitary state of the grapes. The grapes are foot-trodden before going into maceration vats. A semi-carbonic maceration lasts one to three weeks. The grapes are then pressed and age about 12 months in vat until bottling. Unfined/Unfiltered, Low added SO2. The wine is aged an extended period of time in bottle before release.
