Aligoté
An orange Burgundy made from the oft-maligned Aligoté. Troyes-born Laurent Vauthier started his négociant business in 2009 after training in wine, working in Washington and then a wine shop for 15yrs. From vines planted in 1954 on clayey limestone. Fermented+aged 2/3 in vats 1/3 in 228l barriques on the skins. Nose: resin+pickled daikon VA. Hints of cinnamon+funky barnyard. Palate: quite focused with acidity but with brooding weight of tropical pineapple+cantelope melon. Cidre +lemon finish. Needs air!
