The wine impresses with its intoxicating aromatics of sweet red and dark berries, florals, dried exotic spices, tangerine rind, black tea leaf, wet stones, and earthy mineral nuances all taking shape. On the palate, the combination of purity and sense of place is a thing of beauty, as it displays striking elegance and finesse, with a gorgeous silky texture that is incredibly concentrated and displays remarkable overall precision and balance. Med acidity, Medium plus finish and long finish. Complex as hell. Smashing wine!
Our “Grand Vin” from our Barbabecchi vineyard at 910m. Planted around 1910 and North-North East exposed, capturing the first and cool morning sun rays. This pure Nerello Mascalese from ungrafted old vines produces a profound wine, rich as well as elegant at the same time with character and personality: liquorice and oriental spices. Only produced in great vintages where we achieve full phenolic ripeness. ONLY ~1,500 bottles produced a year Average age of vines: 100+ years Vinification: Destemming & light crushing of the grapes Fermentation: starting with a “pied-de-cuve” using only indigenous yeasts & skin contact for about 60 days Aging: In neutral epoxy tanks from 1200 liters to 2.500 liters Fining: No Vintage: 2017 Varietals: Nerello Mascalese Farming: Not certified Organic/Biodynamic but practices in the fullest to be little to no intervention and sustainable. No fining or filtration, no added sulfites. As pure as they come.
