Grignolino is a red-wine grape from the Monferrato hills of Piedmont. The pale red wine that Grignolino grapes produce is a local curiosity (particularly in eastern Piedmont). As a result, the variety has never ventured far from its northern Italian homeland, although there are a handful of Grignolino vines in California, in the Santa Clara and Napa valleys. Heitz's Tasting Notes: With its lush ruby hue and refreshingly zippy acidity, you’d be forgiven for finding yourself transported to Northern Italy. Indeed, this is our Napa Valley expression of a grape originally from Piedmont – and a wine we’ve been making for our entire 55-year history. Versatile and vivacious, this wine is filled to the brim with sweet red berry flavors and garnished with just a hint of orange peel, giving it a wonderful finish. A natural match for lighter fare or even a slice of pizza.
